Bullet Velocity Estimation Tool

To use this tool, enter a bullet weight and velocity for a known load. Then enter the bullet weight of the bullet whose velocity you want to estimate and click "Calculate".

Bullet To Estimate

How it Works

This calculator is a simple estimator. All it does is assume that both bullets will have the same muzzle energy, and then calculate the velocity required to hold that condition. It does not take anything else into account or make any other assumptions. Not bearing surface, jacket thickness, different powder loads, seating depths - not anything. So this will be a crude estimate. If you need something better than that, you should use a comprehensive internal ballistics tool like QuickLOAD, or better still, a live fire test. All that said, this is a useful quick and dirty way to see how much velocity you will gain or give up when changing bullets.
